Human HT1080 fibrosarcoma cells expressing human adenovirus type 5 E4 orf3 protein. The viral protein (green) forms a polymer of nuclear tracks and knots that alter the structure of chromatin and affect cellular gene expression. E4 orf3 protein colocalizes with the cellular kinase Nek9 (red) in the nucleus (blue) of cells expressing E4 orf3 (overlap shown in yellow). Images were acquired using laser confocal microscopy and enhanced in Adobe Photoshop for clarity and artistic effect.(Copyright © 2016, American Society for Microbiology. All Rights Reserved.)
